Anas’ $18m Court Case: I will continue to fight for the truth – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central, has stated that he will continue to fight for the truth even after an Essex County Court in New Jersey awarded investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, $18m in damages against him for defamation.

Speaking to a group of people at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on March 27, 2025, he stated that he would fight until the truth is established.

In a video shared on Metro TV’s ‘X’ account, the maverick politician is heard urging the crowd to stay calm, even as he thanked them for the rousing welcome they gave him and his wife on their return to the country.

“Thank you for the welcome and support you’ve shown me and my wife. This will inspire me to continue to fight and defend the truth. So, I will say that you should all stay calm. Nobody should worry.

“Anyone who wants to speak the truth and fight for the voiceless will go through all of these ordeals. I’ve become a better person after this ordeal and I thank you all for your support. In due course, you’ll hear from me,” he said.

Background

An Essex County Court in New Jersey on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, awarded $18 million to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas against former legislator Kennedy Agyapong and media personality Frederick Asamoah for making defamatory statements about him during an episode of The Daddy Fred Show, an online program popular among Ghanaian audiences in the United States.

During the program, Agyapong allegedly made a series of false and damaging claims, including accusing Anas of being a criminal, a thief, and being responsible for the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

However, some individuals have suggested that the case was a mistrial and that reports claiming the judge awarded $18 million in favour of Anas were false.
