Former NSA boss Osei Assibey Antwi picked up by NIB

The former Director General of the National Service Authority, Osei Assibey Antwi has been reportedly picked up in his home this morning by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for questioning.

GhanaWeb sources reveal that the former government appointee is currently in custody.

In September 2021, former President Nana Akufo-Addo appointed Osei Assibey Antwi as the interim Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS).

From 2017 to 2021, Mr. Antwi served as the KMA Mayor and was pursuing another term before he opted out. He previously acted as the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister from 2006 to January 2009.

His arrest is likely related to the scandalous payroll fraud and the alleged discovery of ghost names on the National Service payroll.

The scandal exposed significant discrepancies, revealing approximately 81,885 suspected ghost names.

The supposed ghost names were detected following a headcount of active National Service personnel, conducted at the behest of the Minister for Finance as a prerequisite for clearing allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.

In response, President John Dramani Mahama instructed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to initiate investigations into the operations of the National Service Secretariat (NSA) under the former government.

He becomes the latest individual from the NSA to be apprehended by the NIB, following the recent invitations of Gifty Oware-Mensah, a former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority, and Kwaku Ohene Gyan, a former Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the NSA.
