‘Good idea’ – FIFA President Infantino on potential Drake World Cup halftime show

The world football governing body recently announced that it is working with Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, to curate the first Super Bowl-style halftime show at the World Cup final next year.

In a chat with Fox5, Infantino welcomed the suggestion of Drake being the maiden headliner as a “good idea”.

The co-host said, “I have a great idea for you the halftime; Drake! Because Kendrick Lamar did his thing at the Super Bowl…”

Infantino: “So we can create a bit of rivalry, right? That’s a good idea. Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities [of the tournament]… We will do that [sign him for the halftime show].”

The MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — to be known as New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup — will host the final on July 19, 2026. FIFA is also staging what Infantino called a “takeover” of Times Square for the final weekend of the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada.
