Ghana Health Service announce shakeup in leadership

The reassignments, which take effect from April 14, 2025, was announced in a statement issued by the service on Friday, March 7, 2025.

“As part of efforts to strengthen quality health service delivery to facilitate the achievement of the objectives of the Ghana Health Service, the following Directors have been reassigned as follows with effect from April 14, 2025,”, it said.

Among those reassigned include Samuel Kwabena Boakye-Boateng, who previously served as the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) in the Upper East Region.

He will now take up the role of the Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division (PPMED) at GHS headquarters.

Dr. Kennedy T.C. Brightson, formerly the Medical Superintendent at Shai-Osudoku Municipal Hospital, will become the Acting Director of Family Health at GHS Headquarters, and Dr. Abdulai Abukari, previously the Regional Health Director in the Northern Region, will now be the Director of Special Duties at the GHS headquarters.

Dr. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, who was previously the Director of GHS Headquarters, PPMED, has been appointed the Regional Director of Health Services in the Central Region.

Dr. Marian Okoh-Owusu who was previously the Director of GHS Headquarters’ Family Health Division (FHD) will now serve as the Bono East Regional Director of Health Services.

Dr. Braimah Baba Abubakari, who previously served as the Regional Director of Health Services in the North East Region, has moved to the Upper East Region, while Damien Punguyire, previously the Regional Director of Health Services in the Upper West Region, will now head the Eastern Region.
