Police deploy 120 personnel for Council of State election in Central Region

The Central Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has deployed a total of 120 security personnel to ensure law and order during the Council of State election slated for Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

At a brief inspection of the venue for the election at the Banquet Hall of the Regional Coordinating Council, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Adu, the Central Regional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that they would ensure adequate security for all.

DCOP Adu emphasised a zero-tolerance for violence, assuring that the police would enforce the law strictly to ensure peaceful election.

According to Article 89(1) of the 1992 Constitution, the Council of State is “to counsel the President in the performance of his functions.”

Articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution sets up the Council of State to counsel the President in the performance of his functions.

Its members include a former Chief Justice, a former Chief of Defence Staff, and a former Inspector-General of Police each appointed by the President in consultation with Parliament.

Other members are the president of the National House of Chiefs; one representative from each region who would be elected on Tuesday, and 11 other members appointed by the President.

Ten people are vying for one to be elected to represent the Central Region.
