Tears flow as Hearts fans join Kotoko supporters to hold vigil for Pooley

Supporters of Ghana’s two most historic clubs united on the evening of Sunday, February 9, 2025, to honor the memory of their fallen colleague, Francis Frimpong, alias Nana Pooley, whose life was cruelly taken from him during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Officials and fans of Hearts and Kotoko converged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to hold a candlelight vigil for Pooley, whose life was dedicated to serving and promoting Asante Kotoko.

While the vigil was meant to honor the memory of Pooley, it also served as a reminder of the importance of proper conduct at game centers.

It also served as a notice to the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Football Association to ensure that appropriate security protocols are instituted at game venues to prevent a repetition of the chaos that occurred at the Nana Konamansah Park.

The fans wielded placards calling authorities to action and urging their fellow supporters to learn lessons from the unfortunate incident.

So far, six people, including the former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, have been arrested for their respective roles in the fracas.

Two of the six accused are on bail and will appear in court on February 17, 2025.
