‘Sit down, you daughter of a murderer’ – NPP MP calls out Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings in Parliament

During parliamentary proceedings on January 4, 2025, a Member of Parliament (MP) was heard calling out Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the incumbent MP for the Korle-Klottey constituency, in the chamber.

The MPs were discussing the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah, a former statesman.

Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central raised concern that certain praises heaped on JB Danquah by the Minority were inaccurate.

This led to a heated exchange in the chamber, prompting the presiding Speaker, Lawyer Andrew Asiamah, to order that he would no longer accept contributions from MPs except their leadership.

At the time of the Speaker’s comment, the MP for Korle-Klottey was on her feet, seeking permission to contribute. However, Lawyer Asiamah called Afenyo-Markin the Minority Leader to make his submission.

During his address, other MPs were heard interrupting his speech.

As the exchanges continued, a voice from the Minority side was heard shouting at the NDC female MP Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings who is the daughter of the late President of Ghana, John Jerry Rawlings, saying, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”

Following this remark, another MP was heard stating, “But there is evidence that her father killed people.”

Afenyo then calmed the MPs and continued his contribution on the floor.
