Parents storm WAEC Kumasi office over wards’ withheld results
According to the parents and students they have no idea on what they will be writing in the statement, with some parents agitating that what their wards will write may be at the detriment of their wards.
Some parents requested that they get the opportunity to stand by their wards as they write the statement to avoid any inconveniences in the future.
“We parents and our wards are not to blame for the work of WAEC’s shoddy work”, they stated.
Background of the Issue
The Mathematics paper was withheld due to alleged irregularities, leaving thousands of students uncertain about their future.
WAEC has asked candidates to sign a statement, which many believe is an attempt to shift the blame for the irregularities onto the students.
Parents have dejected WAEC’s requirement, stating that that it is unfair and unjust to ask students to take responsibility for the council’s mistakes.
Speaking to OTEC news reporter Sarkodie Samuel, Parents and students are concerned that signing the statement could jeopardize their chances of passing the examination or affect their future academic prospects.
Ernest Agyapong, the Deputy Registrar on charge of Certificate at the Northern Zone of WAEC, indicated the significance of the students signing the statement, stating that it is the only way the Mathematics paper could be released.
