‘It’s enough!’ – Afenyo-Markin interjects Dzifa Gomashie for ‘over-answering’ a question

As the Appointment Committee members took turns questioning Dzifa Gomashie, who is being vetted for the position of Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, one of the key moments during her appearance was when Efutu MP, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, interrupted her, claiming she was over-answering a question.

Afenyo-Markin asked Dzifa Gomashie how she intends to advocate for the improvement of roads leading to tourist destinations, stressing that she would bear the blame if the issue was not addressed.

“You are tourism, and if you don’t get it done, they will say you have failed. And I don’t want you to fail. What assurance can you give to Ghanaians that the Roads Minister will address this?” he inquired.

Gomashie responded, saying, “I will push for it to be done because it will bring investments. Fixing the roads to these sites will increase visits, benefiting everyone involved. I will lobby as hard as I can. And as a former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, I will…”

At that point, Afenyo-Markin, who felt she was overelaborating, interrupted her, saying, “It’s enough! It’s enough. You’ve already answered the question. Don’t go too much. Let’s stay within the scope of it, so your people don’t say I’ve kept you here too long.”

Dzifa Gomashie is currently before the Parliamentary Appointment Committee on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, for her vetting, which will determine her confirmation as the substantive Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

She was nominated for the position on January 16, 2025, in a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Having served as Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture under the Mahama administration from 2013 to 2017, Dzifa Gomashie is also a two-term Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, where she has championed development and community empowerment initiatives.
