‘Twice elected, in my kingdom’ – Speaker Bagbin’s hilarious response to Akufo-Addo

Ghana reached an important milestone as the nation held its 9th Presidential and Vice Presidential inauguration ceremony, where President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang took the Oath of Office on Jnauary 7, 2025.

One of the amusing moments at the event occurred when former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo congratulated John Mahama and Professor Opoku-Agyemang.

After congratulating the President and Vice President, former President Akufo-Addo went on to congratulate Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, who had been re-elected for a second term prior to the inauguration.

Upon reaching the Speaker, Akufo-Addo, who appeared excited to see him, exclaimed, “Uncle, twice elected,” with a giggle.

Speaker Bagbin responded to the President’s remarks by claiming that Parliament was his kingdom, stating, “In my kingdom.”

This caused Akufo-Addo to burst into laughter before greeting Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
