Galatasaray boss reveals why Osimhen missed feisty derby against Istanbul Başakşehir

Nigerian international Victor Osimhen was conspicuously missing in action during Galatasaray’s clash against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Cup on Wednesday, January 8.

The 26-year-old, who was surprisingly omitted from the matchday squad, watched the game from the stands.

Initial reports indicated that Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk left out Osimhen due to the nature of the encounter.

However, the manager indicated in a post-match interview that the Super Eagles striker wasn’t physically fit to feature for the Super Lig champions.

“Osimhen had an illness. He had a fever after the last match and could not attend training. He is not in the squad today because he is not physically ready.

“Osimhen will train tomorrow. We don’t have anything missing. We will be at full strength by the end of the week. We will go there to win,” the Galatasaray manager stated.

Galatasaray were held to a 2-2 draw at the Rams Park in what was a keenly contested derby clash.

Osimhen’s absence proved costly as Michy Batshuayi missed a stoppage time penalty, which Osimhen might have converted if he was on the field.
