When God speaks, no man born of a woman can speak otherwise. The election of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asin North, James Gyakye Quayson in 2020 got the NPP to plan, conjure and employ irrational tactics to ensure that he does not represent his people in Parliament.
A court order was secured to injunct him from entering Parliament as representative. Michael Ankomah-Nimfah, the Plaintiff in his statement argued that as at the time of filling to contest as a MP, Gyakye Quayson was dual citizen.
The matter started from the base up to the apex of the mountain but Quayson was never successful in the journey.
The Supreme Court, as usual, in a unanimous decision ordered Parliament to expunge the name of Gyakye Quayson from its records as a MP for the Assin North Constituency.
Is it not intriguing that the same Supreme Court that denied Assin North parliamentary representation declared as sacrilegious for Wassa Amenfi Central, Fomena, Suhum, and Agona West constituents to stay a millisecond without representation?
It must also be remembered that both the Assin North and Techiman North cases were running concurrently. The same court found it expedient to injunct Gyekye Quayson but unable to injunct Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah of Techiman North.
The reason for the inconsistent stance of the court was because the Assin North is occupied by the NDC and that of Techiman North is occupied by the the courts’ allies, the NPP.
Despite these injustices against Gyekye Quayson, he never gave up. He went into the by-election even more victorious. The NPP replaced the candidate who had 44.79% percent in the 2020 elections with Charles Opoku, a candidate they believe will be more credible and win the seat for them. Unfortunately for them, Opoku secured only 42.15% percent, about 2.64% percent less than the candidate they discredited. Ghanaians are good, right?
Gyekye Quayson improved on his 2020 performance of 55.21% percent to 57.56% percent in the by-election, about 2.35 higher. A strong cartel had ganged up against the Assin North MP but the wishes of man are not the wishes of God. God favoured Quayson, he won!
The Quayson favour will certainly locate President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 elections. No matter how the state architecture is designed to make him fall he will rise like Quayson.
We have heard all manner of comments from NPP high ranks including President Nana Addo. He recklessly and boldly declared he will never hand over power to President Mahama.
He said, “I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice.” He is not the only one on this but several other NPP kingpins have become faulty of such reckless comments.
The conduct of the election management body, the security agencies and the judiciary does not give any confidence that the 2024 elections is intended to be fair and just reflecting the will of the people. It is therefore not surprising that a whooping 67%, 64%, 72%, 68% and 73% of Ghanaians do not trust the Electoral Commission (EC), courts, police, President and NPP respectively in a recent Afrobarometer report.
This luck of trust is expected because appointments, particularly into the EC and the courts are questionable because NPP card bearing members are offered responsibilities in these key institutions. Aside the appointments, the doings of these institutions prove that pure biases are evident in the their dealings.
For instance, the NDC on Tuesday held a press conference accusing the NPP of developing a well-crafted scheme designed to rig the upcoming election, particularly in the Ashanti Region through ballot stuffing, swapping of ballot boxes, swapping of pink sheets and other clandestine activities.
The ruling government want to achieve this through Brigadier-General Michael Opoku of the Ghana Armed Forces. Remember, Brigadier General Michael Opoku played a key role in mobilizing National Security personnel during the infamous by-election violence at Ayawaso West-Wuogon in 2019.
A commission was charge to investigate the Ayawaso West-Wuogon by-election violence and Brigadier General (then Colonel) Michael Opoku was found to be guilty and was recommended for reprimanded by the Emile Short led commission.
The government through an infamous White Paper rejected the report and went on to promote Colonel Mickel Opoku to Brigadier General. Entrusting him with election security should ring bell in the ears of all sound minds.
No matter how hard the NPP and President Nana Addo try, Ghanaians are on the side of God and their evil wish for Ghana will never see sunshine.
The vigilance of the NDC and the Ghanaian integrity will lead for President Mahama to touch the Quayson favour. Mahama will win!
