Five people have been confirmed dead, while 30 are admitted at Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital following a cholera outbreak in Kasoa, located in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Anita Love Obo Amissah, three of the victims died on Thursday night, and two more died on Friday afternoon, bringing the total number of deaths to five.

In an interview with Kasapa News’ Yaw Boagyan, MCE Anita Love Obo Amissah reported that the number of cases had increased from 20 to 30 as of Friday afternoon. She urged residents of Kasoa to take necessary precautions to avoid contracting the disease.

She also commended the health workers at Kasoa Polyclinic and Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital for their hard work in saving lives.

“What is encouraging is that the doctors and nurses are doing a very great job. They have managed a lot of people, and by the grace of God, the patients are also doing well. The medical staff truly deserve commendation,” the MCE stated.

Meanwhile, Awutu Senya East Municipal Environmental Officer Godson Lodo urged Ghanaians to avoid purchasing food from unclean environments and advised food vendors to cook in sanitary conditions to prevent outbreaks.

The bodies of the five deceased have been sent to the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
