The head coach of Sudan, James Kwasi Appiah, has expressed his excitement after his side clinched victory against the Black Stars of Ghana in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 15, 2024, in Libya.

According to him, the Black Stars have a good team with brilliant players, but their performance has not been up to expectations.

Appiah described the defeat to Ghana as unfortunate, as it could affect the team’s chances of securing qualification for the 2025 AFCON, which will be hosted in Morocco.

The former Black Stars coach indicated that he is delighted the victory against Ghana has put smiles on the faces of the Sudanese.

“It is unfortunate for Ghana. Ghana has a good team, but it is unfortunate that only one of us can go through. I am happy we have been able to put smiles on the Sudanese faces,” Kwasi Appiah said in a post shared by JoySports on X.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Mohammed and Yousif Yagoub scored the two goals for Sudan to defeat the Black Stars, who struggled to find their best form, failing to create chances and pose a threat to the Sudanese as they had in the first game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

After four matches played, Ghana lies in third place in Group F with two points, Sudan in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with nine points, waiting to play their fourth game.

The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana.

The chances of the team qualifying have become slim, with a defeat in any of the next two games likely to jeopardise the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
