Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has reacted to the detention of Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the lead convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement and Democracy Hub.

Barker-Vormawor was arrested along with 53 other individuals charged with unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, assaulting a public officer, and offensive conduct conducive to breaching the peace during a protest held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

During the protest, Barker-Vomarwor was captured removing the keys to a police van that was parked – an action that ultimately led to his arrest.

While 52 of the protestors have been released, Oliver Barker-Vomarwor was denied bail.

In response to this, Anas took to X (formerly Twitter), to comment on Oliver’s continued detention.

He wrote “The continued detention of Oliver Vormawor is an affront to everything we’ve fought for in our democracy. Leaders must remember: power is finite, but the will of the people endures.✊🏾”
