President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on people who can afford school fees for their wards in private schools to do so.
Addressing the subject of Free SHS, the president said that despite the government’s efforts to ensure quality and effective implementation of the policy, there have been major criticisms.
He maintained that he is committed to ensuring the provision of education for the underprivileged in society.
Speaking at the Annual Ghana Bar Association Conference in Kumasi on Monday, September 9, President Akufo-Addo argued that the policy has benefited many underprivileged students and increased the number of enrollments in secondary schools.
He emphasised that his government remains committed to providing education for the underprivileged in society.
“People who can afford to pay fees for the education of their wards should send them to fee-paying private schools.
“Public schools, schools funded by the taxpayer, should be free to all who would otherwise be unable to pay for their education. That is why the number of people who have access to second-cycle education has doubled since the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy,” myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said.
