A video of Afrobeats artiste David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido rapping has surfaced on social media.
The video came to light following rapper Illblisss’s interview in which he mentioned that the hip-hop community had lost Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid to Afrobeats.
During an interview with Radio Now 95.3 FM, Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Ejiofor, better known as Illbliss reminisced about the vibrant rap scene in Nigeria.
He stated that the country once had Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido as rappers in their early stages of their music careers.
Illbliss pointed out that their transition from rap to Afrobeats had propelled them to global stardom, but it was also a significant loss for the hip-hop genre.
He said: “We (Hip-Hop community) lost a lot of our soldiers; we lost Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. Three of them were rappers. I guess they found the Afrobeats vibe and it made them global stars.”
Illbliss further commented on the challenges of promoting hip-hop in Nigeria, stating, “Hip-hop is a tough sell in Nigeria. Not everybody has been as fortunate as myself or Vector, M.I., Reminisce, Olamide, and Phyno. It’s not a long list.”
His comments sparked various reactions from Nigerians

@happy_wisd67238: Davido nor be rapper person were never sing finish one be rapper
@iam_YoungShozy: Straight fact. it’s quite tough for rappers to break out in nigeria than it is for an afro beat singer, hence why many switch lane, even reminisce lean towards singing and lamba style for the fame, same with olamide despite their rap prowess. That’s how tough the industry is
