The 2024 Homowo Festival was a vibrant celebration of Ga culture and tradition, marked by grand festivities and a strong sense of unity.

Hundreds of people returned home for the festival, which is celebrated to “hoot at hunger.”

Chiefs donned traditional red attire, while their entourages were beautifully dressed in their regalia to symbolize their victory over hunger.

The festival kicked off with a grand procession led by the Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, Nii Ayi Bonte II. As tradition dictates, they sprinkled kpekpoi (a special festival dish) on the principal streets of Accra, setting the stage for the festivities.

Members of the British High Commission joined in the celebrations, participating in the traditional rites, and adding an international flair to the festival.

The highlight of the festival was the grand appearance of Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at Ga Mashie.

Dr. Bawumia used the opportunity to urge Ghanaians to remember and vote for him in the General Elections on December 7.

Nii Ayi Quaye I, Chief of Alajo and a well-known bodyguard to President Akufo-Addo expressed his support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid.

The Gbese Mantse, however, stressed the importance of fair elections to maintain peace and stability in the country.

The festival also saw Dr. Bawumia visit the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who hosted him at his palace.

The Homowo celebrations are expected to continue in other communities like Osu, La, Teshie, Oduman, Adjenkotoku, and surrounding areas in the upcoming weeks.
