A man reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself in ObengKrom, Suaman Dadieso District, Western North Region. The Assemblyman of the area, Hon. Sampson Bediako, confirmed the story on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
He said the man has been identified as Moses Frafra, who had lived in the area for two decades. He indicated that Moses had been all alone, traveled to Côte d’Ivoire, and returned to the community.
The Assemblyman added that Moses became ill with a hernia, and the community rallied to support him in returning to his hometown because he had no relatives nearby.
According to the Assemblyman, Moses was unable to work due to his condition. He stated that Moses originally refused to tell them about his relatives, but after considerable convincing, he consented to return to Bolgatanga. Moses had also told them he had a relative in Techiman and would first go to that relative before heading back to Bolgatanga.
“We mobilized to send him back home, and he agreed to go on Monday. However, on Tuesday, we heard a gunshot in the afternoon, and when we moved to the scene, we saw Moses in a pool of blood. He had shot himself in the head and was lying in a pool of blood. A passerby saw him and raised an alert.
“The police were notified, and the body was recovered and transported to the Enchi Government Hospital mortuary. I believe he committed suicide out of frustration, as I cannot fathom why he would do so.”
He added that the man, maybe in his late 50s, had no phone, making it difficult for them to reach out to any family member.
