A 37-year-old Nigerian man, who has been in jail since 2019 over the death of a prostitute he engaged, was freed on Wednesday, July 25, 2024, under the Justice for All programme.

In an interview with GHOne TV, the Nigerian man narrated the events that led to his arrest in 2019.

He said he came to Ghana to engage in fraud because the country had a stable electricity supply compared to Nigeria.

“I came to Ghana to, let’s say, work, as I would call it, ‘Yahoo’. We call it fraud. To defraud people, but not in Africa, outside. I came to Ghana because of the stable electricity,” he said.

He said he found someone to work with when he arrived in Ghana. He lived with this person, and they had an agreement to share the profits of successful scams, with him taking a smaller share.

The self-proclaimed fraudster indicated that after one successful operation, his partner, who he called “chairman”, decided to take 70% of the profits, leading to a fight.

“I was with my chairman at Kasoa. We had a problem with sharing a large amount. We were supposed to share 40%, 60%. My chairman’s share was 60; mine was 40.

“He said he would not give me the 40 and that he would only give me 30. I refused. We argued and quarrelled. So, I took the 30, then I took my laptop and my things, and I left the hotel,” he added.

After staying in the hotel for a week, the 37-year-old went out to seek the services of a prostitute, which ultimately led to his downfall.

He shared that the sex worker he picked mysteriously died in his hotel room, resulting in his arrest.

“I was in the hotel for about a week. One night, I went out around midnight to London Bar along Kasoa Road, Choice, to find a prostitute.

“I took her in, and she only drank Smirnoff. She said she had already drunk at her madam’s place. The next morning, around 5 to 6 am, I tried waking her up, but she was unresponsive. I checked and saw white foam coming out of her mouth. So, I rushed to call the hotel attendant. The attendant came and helped me take her to the bathroom, but she still didn’t wake up,” he narrated.

The attendant then called the hotel owner, who called the police to arrest him.

The Nigerian man mentioned that since his arrest in 2019, he has never been arraigned before the court after being remanded. He had been languishing in jail until the Justice for All programme intervened.

He said he was returning to Nigeria and would never engage in fraud again.
