Motorists who commute between Otuaplem and Kojo Ashong in the Amasaman constituency, using the bridge that sits above the Densu River, have expressed fear and anxiety over the worsening and dilapidated state of the only bridge that links the two communities.

According to residents, several calls made to local authorities seem to have fallen on deaf ears as no repair work has been done for months now.

Residents fear that the bridge which has now become a death trap will cave in or worse, be swallowed by the ever-rising Densu River due to the rains.

Photos of the bridge show part of the metallic slabs completely off creating big holes. Cement blocks have been used to cover a section of the hole in an attempt to seal them off.

Some residents who spoke to GhanaWeb expressed concerns saying “I cross this bridge every day to get to school,” said a resident. “Lately, I’ve noticed some of the loose railings getting worse. I hope someone takes a look at it soon.”

Meanwhile, they have appealed to local authorities to take action and repair the bridge before it claims the lives of innocent commuters.
