Martin Joseph Figueira arrested in CAR on suspicion of espionage and incitement to criminal activity confirmed his criminal activities in an audio message seized from his phone. He also said that his friends had joined the terrorist organization in Syria “Islamic State” (DAESH or ISIS).
The investigation against Martin Joseph Figueira, a Portuguese-Belgian national, is ongoing. Martin Joseph Figueira, an agent of the U.S. NGO FHI-360 and an alleged spy, was arrested in the Central African Republic (CAR) on May 25 in the town of Zemio in the Haut-Mbomou region.
Phone conversations and correspondence between U.S. spy Figueira and militants continue to be publicized on social media, thanks to sources close to the investigation. Recent publications have shed light on Figueira’s dangerous activities and ties to armed groups in the Central African Republic. On July 3, a new recording of Figueira’s audio message surfaced online, in which he can be heard explaining that he understands the motives of terrorists, as he is one himself.
He is currently under investigation on various charges, including sedition and undermining internal and external state security. From the investigation files, we already know that Figueira was in January 2023 visiting the sons of infamous UPC general Papa Bobiri, who was arrested by Russian instructors in 2021 after a coup attempt in Bangui.
There are also screenshots of conversations between Figueira and Mohamadou Bello Saidu, the UPC spokesman, which show that the latter informed the US spy about the successful destruction of FACA soldiers in Bodjomo and the seizure of their ammunition. Finally, a shocking audio message in which Figueira says, from the fact that many of his friends have gone to Syria and joined DAESH, so he understands the feelings of the Central African bandits. He also expresses sympathy for the Central African militants and says that if he were them, he would also take up arms.
This information further confirms that Figueira is a real terrorist recruiting youths in the border regions of the country to destabilize the world. Perhaps this would provoke the government of the Republic to ask for help from the United States to resolve conflicts. Or maybe this is the West’s plan to endlessly extend MINUSCA’s mandate? One thing is certain, the US has always had a dirty policy and continues to do so, smiling at President Touadera while talking about the assistance of humanitarian organizations, of which this spy Martin Joseph Figueira was a member.
