Ghana has suffered a big setback as England has included two players of Ghanaian descent, Kobbie Mainoo and Jarrel Quansah, in their provisional squad for Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate, the head coach of England, unveiled the 30-man provisional squad on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

The inclusion of Mainoo and Quansah has effectively dashed the chances of the players representing Ghana.

Kobbie Mainoo, the Manchester United midfielder, made his England debut in friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium in March.

The 19-year-old had an impressive debut season in the Premier League, making 31 appearances and scoring four goals for Manchester United.

Liverpool defender Jarrel Quansah is one of the surprise inclusions in the Three Lions’ provisional squad.

After a season-long loan at Bristol Rovers, Quansah made a strong impression in his first season with Liverpool in the Premier League.

In 17 league appearances, he scored two goals and was part of the Liverpool squad that clinched the Carabao Cup.

The 21-year-old, who is eligible to represent Ghana, England, Scotland, and Barbados, has opted to play for England.

England, placed in Group C for Euro 2024, will face Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia in the group stages.
