Ghana Police, security services building a Central Crime Database for pre-emptive policing- IGP in Dubai
Ghana’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu has revealed that policing is gradually moving away from a paradigm of reactive to proactive, pre-emptive as a result of technology which is important for the service.
The Police Boss who is leading a Ghanaian delegation in Dubai at the 87th INTERPOL General Assembly, was asked how he sees the future operational environment for law enforcement in five years.
“Through the innovative use of crime fighting-technology and effective communications, our key objective is to better align our organizational vision with day to day operations, increase internal resilience and change the dominant culture of policing from an essentially reactive to proactive and dynamic paradigm”
On what kind of approaches he has in mind as chief of police to prepare the police organization for this future he said “we urgently need a robust crime database that will complement our increasing use of intelligence to fight crime. Prompt identification of suspected criminals through artificial intelligence with big data and connectivity will increase the efficiency of police operations in order to better protect citizens against both internal and external and external threats technology.
He hinted plans to extend the database to other security services such as border and immigration control and prison services in order to increase effective coordinated responses across our security landscape.
“Thanks to INTERPOL, the Ghana Police database is supported by WAPI, the West African Police Information System, one of our key priorities is to mobilize support to extend the Ghana Police Service database to other security services such as border and immigration control and prison services. This will also increase effective coordinated responses across our security landscape”
