Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni tests positive for COVID-19

The revelation came shortly after his State of the Nation address on Wednesday, where he informed the public about his slight cold and subsequent decision to undergo testing.

Diana Atwine, the permanent secretary at the health ministry, stated that President Museveni had developed mild flu-like symptoms but remained in good health overall.

Despite his diagnosis, he will continue to carry out his official duties while adhering to standard operating procedures for COVID-19 cases.

During the peak of the pandemic, Uganda implemented some of the strictest measures in Africa to contain the virus’s spread.

These measures included lengthy curfews and the closure of schools and businesses. However, in February 2022, the country fully reopened, easing most restrictions.
