The World Cup winner was handed two weeks suspension by the French club for visiting Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner who is trying to engineer a move away from the French capital in a statement said he thought he had an off day and couldn’t cancel the trip.
“I thought we were going to have a day off after the game as always happened. I had this trip organised and I couldn’t cancel it.
“I had already cancelled it before. I apologise to my teammates and I’m waiting for what the club wants to do with me.”
Messi has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi-based Al-Hilal.
A return to former club Barcelona could also be on the cards for the Argentina captain.
