Ashaiman NDC: Mahama, Goosie fans in fisticuffs over posters

The Ashaiman Constituency Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tony Afenyo, on Monday, 29 October 2018 engaged the party’s Constituency Operations Officer, Carlos Usman in a fight over a misunderstanding.

The fight ensued when the Constituency Chairman, who is a staunch supporter of flag bearer hopeful, Goosie Tanoh, led some youth to splash his preferred candidate’s campaign posters all over the Constituency ahead of a planned visit on Tuesday, 30 October, by former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also seeking to, once again, become the flag bearer ahead of the 2020 polls.

Mr Afenyo’s action got the party’s Operations Officer, who is also a staunch support of Mr Mahama, unnerved, leading to a confrontation and subsequent fisticuffs between the two.

Speaking to Class News’ Ibrahiim Obeng Mensah about the rift, Mr Usman said: “Tony has been doing certain things in Ashaiman that I’ve been quiet [about] for a long [time] but I think it’s time for me to bring him to book”.

“I don’t care, he can support his Goosie Tanoh, it’s a game, but he being a Chairman should, at least, remain neutral. John Mahama is coming to Ashaiman today, and [last] night as of 10 pm, we were at the premises to make sure we fix the lights and everything, and Tony ordered his boys to come to the premises with Goosie Tanoh’s posters, pasting it at the premises.”

Mr Usman said Mr Afenyo also instructed his boys to deface Mr Mahama’s posters with Mr Tanoh’s.

“So, I swore to Tony that he shouldn’t try anything about JM. I promised him I will not even allow him to enter the premises today when JM arrives. He should wait, when Goosie Tanoh comes to Ashaiman then he should do those things. So, we fought, he gave me a blow and I also retaliated and I won the fight because I have never lost anything,” he stated.
