Teacher and Nursing Training Colleges project under construction at Ajumako Besease in the Central Region has been abandoned, turning the construction site into an abode for grass cutters, snakes, and other dangerous animals.
The buildings which were initiated by the previous NDC government led by John Dramani were abandoned after the contractor left the site after the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party(NPP) assumed power in 2017.
The Nursing Training College which was about 85 percent completed, had been painted, electricity connected, all rooms tiled, and doors and ceiling fans fixed but has been left to rot in a bush.
A visit by Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan to the project site revealed that residents had stolen some building materials meant for the project including chippings, wood, sand, iron rods, and blocks for the project for their personal use.
The project site which has been overgrown with weeds has reportedly been turned into a ‘save haven’ for weed smokers while others also have sex there.
Meanwhile, residents in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District have mounted pressure on the Government and the District Chief Executive for the Area Hon. Emmanuel Ransford Kwesi Nyarko to complete the projects.
Some angry residents expressed displeasure over how such projects which would have provided job opportunities for them have been left to rot in the bush for so many years.
According to the residents, they regret sacrificing their farms to be used as a construction site for the projects without any compensation only for the projects to be abandoned and the area turned into a bush.
Meanwhile, there are only six public nursing Training Colleges in the Central Region which is not enough and are far away from the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District.
There are only three Teacher Training Colleges in the Central Region which is also not enough for the people in the Central Region.
Residents are therefore calling on the government to immediately complete these abandoned rotten projects which were built with the taxpayers’ money to serve their intended purposes.
The District Chief Executive for Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Hon. Emmanuel Ransford Kwesi Nyarko in his earlier comments said he doesn’t have any documents that prove the project was awarded to a Contractor though it was initiated by the Member of Parliament Dr. Ato Forson.
He said until he gets official documents and permits on the building there is nothing he can do about it, but will do his best to ensure the right thing is done.
