Bukom Banku and son remanded in police custody

Briamah Isaac Kamoko, also known as “Bukom Banku,” is a professional boxer from Ghana. An Accra Circuit Court has put him in police custody for a week on the charge of aiding a crime.

He is said to have helped Ismael Quaye get hurt at Bukom in the Greater Accra Region with the help of Prosper Quaye.

Bukom Banku was in the courtroom with his son, Mustapha Kamoko, who was also accused of doing damage.

Both 50-year-old Bukom Banku and his son Mustapha Kamoko have said they are not guilty.

Prosper Quaye, a 32-year-old unemployed man who was with them and is being held on a charge of causing illegal damage, did not show up to court to have his plea taken.

So, the court put out an order for his arrest.

Mr. Godwin Amoah, the lawyer for the accused person, told the court that Prosper Quaye was at the court earlier but told him that his stomach hurt and that he was going to buy some medicine.

Mr. Amoah asked the court to let his clients go free on bail, saying that they were related and had good people who could stand as sureties.

He said that they had permanent homes and were not “flight risks.”

The prosecution was against bail because they had done something similar before, and if they got out on bail, they would get in the way of police investigations.

It also asked for Prosper Quaye to be arrested by a judge.

So, the court, which was run by Mrs. Adelaide Abui Keddey, put them in police custody for seven days and told them to come back on December 19, 2022.

The prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Maxwell Ayim, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Ishmael Neequaye, is a footballer who lives in Bukom, while the accused (Bukom Banku and his son) are boxers and Prosper Quaye doesn’t have a job.

The prosecution said that all of the accused people lived in Bukom, which is close to Jamestown.

The prosecution said that on November 25, 2022, around 3:30 p.m., the complainant was sleeping in his room when he heard a strange sound coming from outside his house.

Chief Inspector Ayim said the person who filed the complaint woke up and saw the accused people beating up some of his friends, including Julius Tagoe, who was a witness in the case.

The prosecution said that the complainant went up to them and put things back in order.

Chief Inspector Ayim said that when Bukom Banku saw the complainant, he broke a bottle and gave it to Mustapha to hurt the man.

The prosecution said that Mustapha listened to the Banku and cut the complainant’s abdomen deeply, causing him to bleed heavily.

Chief Inspector Ayim said that Prosper also took a stone and threw it at Tagoe’s 32-inch TV.

The prosecution said that the complainant was rushed to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted.

Chief Inspector Ayim said that efforts were made to catch the people who were accused, but they were not caught.

The prosecution said that criminal summonses were made and given to them so they could go to court.
