At least one person has been killed and dozens injured in central South Africa, in flooding caused by the bursting of a dam at a mine.

The water swept away houses and cars in the town of Jagersfontein, south-west of the Free State capital of Bloemfontein.

People have fled their homes, with a sea of mud and water flowing in.

The town’s power supplies were cut off, as mud engulfed a substation.

Reports say some houses completely collapsed.

Rescue teams – including divers and helicopters – have gone to help.
