Land Guards invade Akropong

Residents and property owners of Akropong in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region are living in fear as they are constantly being attacked by armed thugs popularly known as Land Guards.

The residents say they are living in fear and have asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, to heighten security in the area.

The troubled residents and property owners tell reporters that a group of Land Guards are harassing and forcing them out of their properties.

These acts of hooliganism, our investigations revealed, is engineered by a self -styled estate developer known as Gyata, operating under the name Ernab Ventures.

The nefarious activities of Gyata, who is a well-known Land Guard are ably assisted by the Krontihene of Akropong and the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly.

The Krontihene is alleged to have transferred ownership of some lands belonging to the royal family to Gyata and his team of marauding hooligans, who terrorize nonconformists through blatant intimidation.

In a blatant show of power, Ernab Ventures has asked all properties owners in areas such as Mpaniase, Kyekrotia, Adenim, Aban Ase, Kokoase, Abiriw Market and Daakye to show proof of ownership or lose their lands.

“Gyata is developing into a monster in Akropong to devour everybody gradually, so we are calling on the security agencies to take steps to halt the activities of these hoodlums.

“We are appealing to the Inspector General of Police to intervene in this matter to save the lives of innocent children, vulnerable individuals and properties,” one of the property owners who pleaded for strict anonymity said.

Consequently, the residents have vowed to resist any attempt by Gyata and Ernab Ventures to seize their properties from them.

Terror activities of so-called Land Guards have persisted in developing areas across the country despite attempts by security agencies to end them.
