Who killed the Judges: Baako scandalised by silence of subsequent gov’ts on Amedeka

Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Malik Kweku Baako has questioned the inaction of subsequent governments to find L/C Samuel Amedeka, one of the soldiers involved in the killing of judges 36 years ago.

Mr Baako lamented the failure of all governments from the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) to date to look for the jailbreaker.

“No Ghana government or state body has ever attempted to look for him at least through the Interpol,” the veteran journalist lamented.

“Why is it that this fugitive from justice was never put on any platform,” he added.

Mr Baako who was in prison for accusations of conspiracy to remove the Jerry Rawlings-led military regime noted that, when Amedeka was brought to the prison for his involvement in the crime, the soldier was very confident that he wouldn’t be prosecuted.

Asked whether he knows of the whereabouts of Amedeka, Mr Baako noted that save for the last three years he knew the fugitive was alive. “…for now I don’t know,” he said.

Mr Baako was reacting to the Joy News documentary that detailed the abduction and killing of three High Court judges and an ex-soldier, under the Rawlings-led PNDC 36 years ago.

What all three judges had in common was that they had reviewed cases of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), an earlier military regime led by Rawlings.

A military officer, Major Sam Acquah who was killed alongside the judges was involved in the dismissal of Amartey Kwei, a member of the PNDC from Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC) for partaking in a Rawlings-instigated protest.

The soldiers sentenced to death and killed for the crime said, they were carrying out orders of the state.

However, Mr Rawlings and his National Security Advisor, Capt Kojo Tsikata, have vehemently distanced themselves from the atrocities.

A recording which Rawlings claims is a confession from the field-ring-leader Joachim Amartey Kwei which indemnifies him and Tsikata from the killings, cannot be traced. An earlier confession which proves same is also in the wind.
