Pregnant woman arrested for assaulting niece

A pregnant woman is in the grips of Amasaman police for torturing her 7-year-old niece by cutting her fingers with cutlass as punishment.

According to reports, the mother of two who resides in Amasaman brought the young girl from Togo, three months ago.

The woman who is also a hairdresser, reportedly made the young girl’s life a living hell, mentally and physically by abusing her at every opportunity.

She allegedly used objects such as cutlass, iron rod and metal ladle on the victim whenever she made a mistake.

However, the suspect met her Waterloo on Thursday, October 4, 2018, when a resident who gave her name as Vida went to the house to buy a wig saw the girl lying helplessly in a porch.

She said blood was oozing out of her private part and when quizzed, she said her aunty inserted iron rod in her private part.

Alarmed by the situation, Vida said she alerted other residents about the plight of the young girl.

“Everyone in the community came to the house to confront the woman who denied the allegation,” Vida stated.

Vida said other aggrieved residents called the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Meanwhile, the young girl has been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
