Regional Energy Summit closes with confirmation oil block auctions will commence in Ghana next month

The 3rd annual Regional Energy Co-operation Summit welcomed ministerial delegations from

Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone. The 3rd annual Regional Energy Co-operation Summit welcomed ministerial delegations from Ghana,Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone.

The Summit was endorsed by Hon. John Peter Amewu, Minister for Energy of Ghana, with the

support of leading private sector companies AKSA Energy, DLA Piper, ENGIE, FIELDSTONE,

Manitoba, METKA, Wartsila, Greenvile LNG, ib vogt GmbH, Dell’Amore Consultant, Power Africa,

Interplast and public sector agencies such as ECG, GRIDCo, VRA, BUI POWER, Energy Commission of Ghana and WAPP.

Honourable William Aidoo, Deputy Minister for Power, Ministry of Energy, Ghana opens the

Summit with thanks to the organisers EnergyNet:

“Sincere appreciation to the organisers for contributing to the government’s efforts in deepening the co-operation within the Africa region and the collective programmes and initiatives for energy

development.”

Several announcements and celebrations transpired at the summit;

In the context of Ghana’s energy sector reform, Samuel Boakye-Appiah, Managing Director,

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) presented the latest developments on the Private Sector

Privatisation (PSP) and in addition to this Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) hosts the evening drink

reception to welcome investors and regional partners.

The Summit also celebrates GRIDCo’s 10th Anniversary with Mr. Jonathan Amoako-Baah, Chief

Executive Officer, GRIDCo to present the vision for the future of transmission networks in West

Africa on Friday 28th September. The programme concludes with a site visit to the System Control

Centre (SCC), Ghana Power System in Tema organised by Ghana Grid Company.

Honourable William Aidoo, Deputy Minister for Power, Ministry of Energy, Ghana also highlights

the bidding round of new oil blocks in his speech at the summit stating:

“Ghana for the first time is going to conduct and open a competitive bidding round for the allocation of new oil blocks. Licensing Bid Evaluation and negotiations committee have been inaugurated at a workshop held for members.

We look forward to the formal announcement of the competitive bidding round in October this year. This will pave the way for companies who express interest,leading to bidding and awarding of new oil and gas blocks.”
