NPP is callous to flood victims – Northern regional NDC executives poked
The Northern regional executive body of the opposition NDC has accused the ruling NPP of being insensitive towards victims of the floods that has killed about 7 people and destroys several farms across the affected areas.
Addressing a press conference at Tamale, the Northern Regional Secretary of NDC Mr Salisu Be- Awuribe said the Vice- President, Dr Bawumia was in the Northern Region a few days ago without saying a word or pay a visit to any of the affected areas.
The NDC in Northern Region accused the Nana Addo led government of not making any effort to help the people who were affected in this unfortunate situation as a result of the opening of the Bagri dam in Burkina Faso.
Salisu Be-Awuribe said prior to election 2016, Dr Bawunia the Vice- President and Nana Addo were very visible in every funeral house including even funerals of fowls just to show sympathy for votes are today mute and missing from areas that are today suffering from such a disaster.
He went on to say that enough education was not done especially in the media with regards to the spillage of the dam as it used to be in the past.
The notice was very short that many farmers could not harvest their farm produce in time, making thousands of hectares of farms submerging in flooded waters. The NDC regional executives therefore called on the government to immediately move to affected areas to support victims.
The NDC Regional Secretary reminded the NPP government and the Northern Development Authority to quickly revisit the John Mahama administrations plan of building a hydro cum irrigation dam at Pwalugu that will not only store the excess water from the dam but to also improve the economy of the north.
Mr Salisu said the plan was at an advanced stage when the NDC left office in 2016. He advised them not to abandon such a visionary project initiated by transformation and visionary leader John Dramani Mahama.
Present at the press conference were the regional treasurer Mr Ali B. Kassim, Regional Youth organizer Alhaji Mahama Inusah, Communication officer for the northern region, General Amin, Malik Basintale, Deputy Communication officer and many other executives of the party in the Northern Region.
