A team of officers from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service is in Gomoa Adzintem in the Central Region, having been deployed there to track and arrest four suspected herdsmen who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl.

The suspects are said to have also inflicted cutlass wounds on the victim and her father, who are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

A statement issued by Acting Director-General of Public Affairs ACP Kwesi Ofori on Friday, August 27 said the victim and her father were visited at the hospital by officers.

“And according to the doctor on duty, she is in stable condition.”

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare is also reported to have talked to the victim’s father, Kwabena Quaye, on phone.

He has since dispatched a team of clinical psychologists to Gomoa Adzintem to offer counselling to the victim’s family.

“The police are vigorously pursuing these suspects and more updates will be given in due time,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, youth of the town on Friday mounted roadblocks and threatened to kill any Fulani herdsman who visits the town with grazing cattle.

They said before Thursday’s gory incident, the herdsmen have been destroying crops in their farms.
