New Regions: NDC questions mode of limited registration by EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) will today, Sunday begin the limited registration exercise ahead of the December referendum for the creation of the proposed six regions.

The registration exercise which is expected to take place within 47 district offices of the EC for the affected areas will be done online through the Commission’s voter management system.

But the National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams says the part has serious concerns with the mode of registration.

“The arrangement we are hearing if that’s what they are going to do on the ground it means that it’s going to create a problem, and this is the reason why if they had allowed for proper engagement we would have resolved all these things. They have clearly indicated that they would want to conduct the limited registration from their district offices but doing so at the district office they are also telling us they are going to establish a minimum of four registration centres within the district office. And the argument is that if you have enough kits to establish a minimum of four registration points at the district office, why not spread it in the district and zoom the district so that you can have four registration points.”
