Two people were arrested by KwaZulu-Natal police for masquerading as doctors and selling fake medical certificates for R50 each.

KZN police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele said the pair will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of fraud.

They were arrested on Thursday during an undercover sting operation by KwaMashu detectives and Crime Intelligence.

“One of the police officers posed as a customer and approached the two suspects, aged 38 and 47, who wasted no time and issued him with a medical certificate,” said Mbhele.

Mbhele added that, after acquiring their service, the officer introduced himself, searched the suspects, and found them in possession of  several blank medical certificates from private doctors and public hospitals around the province.
