DCI-Ghana elects new board executives

Defense for Children International (DCI)- Ghana, a nongovernmental organization has elected new Board Members to steer the affairs of the association.

Persons who were elected to serve various capacities included; Nana Akumaning Essandoh (V) – President, Stella Owusu Boatemaa – Vice  president, Mary Atwenewaa Duah – Treasure and Boakye Yaw Timothy – Organizer.

The position of  Child Participation went to Mr. Isaac Osei Agyemang and that of the Executive Director went to Dr. George Oppong Ampong.

The election was held during the holding of the association’s general assembly which again sought to offer a platform for the membership to review policies and  programms.

Present during the occasion was Mr Abdul Manaff Kemokai President of the International Movement of Defence for Children. He  provided technical support to ensure that proceedings and outcomes of the elections were consistent with principles and policies of DCI movement at the global level.

The event again sought to address constitutional gaps that have constrained decision making within the organization.

Key among issues addressed included fair gender representation and children’s participation in decision making  and program delivery.

Speaking during the occasion, the President elect His Royal Highness Nana Akumaning Essaandoh (V) who doubles as the chief of Gomoa Odumase and also a practicing journalist  expressed gratitude to members for electing him into the new office.

Though a challenging position, he pledged to use his experience as a journalist and position as a traditional leader to foster the growth of the association.

Issues related to child abuse and gender based violence he promised will be addressed under his watch.
