Two police officers and a civilian have been arrested by the Accra Region Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

Thirty-eight-year-old L/Cpl Emmanuel Abusah Yao, L/Cpl Sulayman Yusuf aged 37 and the civilian, Abdul Samed Yussif, 40, alias Matata were arrested on Friday, December 18, 2020.

According to the Police, the Charlie SWAT team received information that a group of men had in their possession firearms and ammunition and offering them for sale.

The Police team led by DSP Oti Prempeh proceeded to the Achimota area where they met suspect Emmanuel Abusah Yao and Dokpor who claimed they had all caliber of weapons for sale to their customers within Accra metropolis.

The police then and feigned interest in the transaction.

Subsequent surveillance on the suspect Emmanuel Abusah Yao revealed that he met with suspect Suleman Yussif at Alajo behind the Presbyterian Church.

On Friday, at about 0800 hours, the suspects contacted the police that their supplier was ready to supply the weapons to them at Alajo.

During the transaction, the trader, Matata came with his unregistered motorbike and brought a bag containing an unregistered Taruss pistol and offered the same for sale.

The police then arrested all the suspects in the cause of transaction.

A search conducted in Matata’s bag revealed 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 59 rounds of M16 ammunition, 38 rounds of AK 47 assault rifle ammunition and 58 rounds of G3 ammunition.

However, nothing incriminating was found on the two other suspects, Yao and Sulayman.

When searches were conducted at the places of abode of all the suspects, three rounds of 9 mm ammunition were found in the room of Matata at Nima gutter.

Nothing was, however, found in the house of the others.

The police revealed that it was during interrogations that they discovered that Emmanuel Abusah Yao and Sulayman Yusuf are all Lance Corporals stationed at Visibility headquarters in Accra.

The weapon and the ammunitions are currently in police custody.
