80% of Salaga youth who burnt down party office are NPP members – Abiola contradicts MP

Constituency Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Salaga South Abdulai H. Abiola has said 80% of the hooligans who attacked and burnt down the constituency office are members of the ruling party and he knows them, MyNewsGh.com reports.

While the MP for the area Salifu Braimah has dissociated NPP from the rampaging youth, the constituency Secretary of the party has however revealed that the majority of the youth are NPP members and he knows them.

The youth of Salaga South constituency expressed anger following the decision by President Akufo-Addo to name Damango as the regional capital of the newly created Savanna region. The youth set the office of the governing New Patriotic Party in the constituency ablaze that evening. The roofing, fridges, windows, satellite dish and computers are among the many things destroyed by the fire.

They argued the people of Salaga South showed faith in the New Patriotic Party by voting the party’s parliamentary candidate, Salifu Adam Braimah as MP.

They say the choice of Damongo which voted for an NDC candidate Adam Mutawakilu, does not reward the peoples’ faith in the NPP.

He was speaking on Okay FM Wednesday monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

“I know most of them. I was in the office when they came to cause the destruction. They are our people. I can say most of them were NPP members. How can you do this to our office? I can say our constituency office is the largest in the whole Ghana if not the subregion. You can’t find any of its kind anywhere. And they have burnt it down. The law must take it course. They should be dealt with drastically”

He condemned the violence and destruction of property that took place, saying it was uncalled for.

Police have arrested seven (7) people so far.
