63-yr old man sustains machete wound in drinking spot fight over change

A 63-year-Old man, Akwasi Appau, is in critical condition after a drinking spot operator cut part of his cheek with a machete during a serious fight over change after purchasing alcohol at Assin Ninkyiso in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

The victim was said to have bitten a finger of the drinking spot operator, Wofa Yaw, after the latter couldn’t give him his change and decided to keep it.

Akwasi Appau, who was not happy with the decision engaged the drinking spot operator in a scuffle which later resulted in his near-death, as the operator later brought out a machete to inflict the injury on him.

The Assembly Member for the area, Vilinke Mohammed, narrating the incident, stated that but for the intervention of eyewitnesses, the victim would have been dead.

“Both the drinking spot operator and the victim were under the influence of alcohol. So when the fight ensued, the victim bit the hand of the spot operator, who in turn slashed the victim’s cheek with a machete. We could see the teeth of the victim. If the machete had slashed his head, he would have been dead by now. He was taken to the Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, and was later transferred to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.”
