The renewed clash according to the police is related to a dispute over a parcel of land in the Akonkongo-Abempengo electoral area where both communities have claimed ownership. The said parcel of land was recently earmarked for the construction of a police post.
12 houses were also reportedly burnt down amongst other damages.
Superintendent Francis Agyare, the Navrongo Municipal Police Commander told newsmen the weekend violent clash was triggered by jubilation over the release of some suspects on bail by the Bolgatanga High Court who are being prosecuted for their involvement in an earlier clash on same matter.
“There was a clash between the people of Doba and Kandiga. We have lost six lives and among even those killed is an old man over 100 years. They set about 12 houses ablaze and two people were seriously injured. They sustained gunshot wounds and have been rushed to the War Memorial Hospital and we are praying that they survive,” he said.
He disclosed that the clash has led to the killing of some persons by their own community members over suspicion of their support for the opposing community.
The conflict between the Doba and Kandiga communities dates back to 2012 over the parcel of land and the citing of a polling station.
Meanwhile, sources say the Navrongo Municipal Security Committee is expected to hold an emergency security meeting later today to map out an emergency response to the situation.
