38 Cameroonians arrested for cedi counterfeiting in the Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 38 Cameroonians in Kumasi.

Regional Commander, ACI Michael Kwadede, said they were arrested in a swoop organised by the service last week.

The foreigners were suspected to be engaged in counterfeiting activities.

Mr Kwadede said the illegal immigrants are currently at the headquarters in Accra where further investigations are being conducted.

He disclosed this in an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah at one-day lessons learnt workshop under the project “media training and public sensitisation of ECOWAS and migrants’ right” for journalists organised by FMM West Africa in Kumasi.

He said the law enforcement unit of the service is working hard to ensure strict enforcement of the law.

Daniel Tagoe, Project Director for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) also advised Ghanaians to verify from the Ghana Immigration Service and other necessary authorities before travelling to any other country when the opportunity comes.
