30-year-old man shot dead at Awutu Bawjiase in chieftaincy dispute

A violent confrontation at Awutu-Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region has led to the death of a 30-year-old man.

According to myjoyonline.com, the incident unfolded when a group of men, believed to be land guards, took over the Bawjiase chief’s palace just before the scheduled outdooring ceremony of the new chief, Nai Nana Kwaku Osardu (III).

Police sources say that family members of the new chief were gathered in preparation for the ceremony when the suspected land guards invaded the palace with gunshots, leading to the death of the man.

The media outlet added that the Bawjiase community has been involved in a chieftaincy dispute for the past 25 years, which was recently resolved by the National House of Chiefs earlier this year.

The community, according to the report, is still in shock as they believed and hoped that the involvement of the House of Chiefs would bring an end to the dispute.

However, that does not seem to be happening anytime soon.

Myjoyonline.com further reports that the Bawjiase District Police Command is working hard to bring peace and order to the community.

Meanwhile, the body of the man has been taken to the Police Hospital by the Bawjiase Police for further examination.
