Police in the Eastern Region have arrested Gideon Frimpong, a 25-year-old unemployed man for inflicting multiple machete wounds on his friend at Oyoko, a community in the New Juaben North Municipality.

The deceased, Samuel Kofi Appiah, 37, who is also unemployed, and a resident of Oyoko near Koforidua reported to the Koforidua Regional Hospital with multiple wounds on his face for treatment, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival by the medical officer on duty.


According to the police, intelligence gathered indicated that the wounds were inflicted on the deceased by his friend following a scuffle that ensued between them.

Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said the suspect has been arrested to assist the police with their investigations.

“On September 6th at about 9:00pm, police received information to the effect that one Samuel Kofi Appiah, unemployed, and a resident of Oyoko, had reported to the Regional Hospital popularly called central hospital with multiple facial wounds for treatment.”


“The patrol team on duty quickly proceeded to the place and upon further interrogations it was made known that the wounds were inflicted on him by his friend Frimpong Gideon, after the two engaged in a fight; and this was after the deceased had gone on some errands for the suspect. It is however unclear what caused the misunderstanding.”


“Meanwhile, the suspect, Frimpong Gideon, has been detained to assist us with our investigations and the body of the deceased has also been deposited at the central hospital morgue for autopsy.”
