Office of Ga Mantse Debunks False Claims of Court of Appeal Declaration

The Office of the Ga Mantse, under the authority of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has categorically refuted widespread social media reports claiming that the Court of Appeal in Kumasi has declared Nii Adama Latse II as the Ga Mantse. In a press statement issued today, June 13, 2025, the Office described these assertions as “false, misleading, and legally unfounded.”

The statement, aimed at clarifying the legal position and dispelling misinformation, emphasized that under Ghanaian law, the judiciary does not possess the jurisdiction to adjudicate matters concerning chieftaincy. Such issues, the Office highlighted, are exclusively within the domain of the Judicial Committees of Traditional Councils, as well as Regional and National Houses of Chiefs. “Legal experts have affirmed that, under Ghanaian law, the Courts have no jurisdiction to determine causes or matters affecting chieftaincy, as such matters fall exclusively within the purview of the Judicial Committees of the Traditional Councils, Regional and National Houses of Chiefs,” the statement read. “It is, therefore, legally inaccurate to claim that the Court of Appeal, Kumasi, has declared Nii Adama Latse II as Ga Mantse.”

The Office of the Ga Mantse further elucidated the true nature of the Court of Appeal’s ruling. It clarified that the Court did not make a determination on the chieftaincy status or legitimacy of Nii Adama Latse II. Instead, the Court of Appeal merely upheld an earlier High Court decision, which issued an order of mandamus compelling the National House of Chiefs to reinstate Nii Adama Latse II’s name into the National Register of Chiefs. This, the statement underscored, was purely an administrative directive concerning proper legal procedure for removal from the register, and not a declaration of chieftaincy. “The Court of Appeal merely affirmed the High Court’s earlier order of mandamus compelling the National House of Chiefs to restore the name into the National Register of Chiefs within 14 days. This was because it insisted that the removal must be done accordingly to law,” the statement clarified.

The press release also served as a crucial reminder to the public that the substantive dispute regarding the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool remains unresolved and is currently pending before the Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in Dodowa. The case, identified as Suit No. GARHC/P2/2019, was initiated by Nii Adama Latse II (as Petitioner) against King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II (referred to as Dr. Kelvin Tackie), along with Nii Agyemang Kesse II, Dr. Nii Tetteh Kwei, and Nii Dodoo Nsaki II (as Respondents).

The Office of the Ga Mantse firmly reiterated that the Judicial Committee is the sole competent body vested with the authority to determine the rightful occupant of the Ga Mantse Stool. Until such a final ruling is delivered by this designated body, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II remains the legitimate and recognized Ga Mantse.

Furthermore, the statement explicitly clarified that King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II was not a party to the Court of Appeal ruling issued on June 12, 2025. The parties directly involved in that specific legal proceeding were Nii Adama Latse II, the National House of Chiefs, and Nii Tetteh Ashong, the Ga Paramount Stool Seitse.

In conclusion, the Office of the Ga Mantse urged the general public and media outlets to disregard the misleading narratives being propagated by supporters of Nii Adama Latse II. It called upon all well-meaning GaDangme citizens and residents of the Ga State to remain calm and not succumb to misinformation. “We call on the general public and the media to disregard the misleading interpretations being propagated by supporters of Nii Adama Latse II. We urge all well-meaning GaDangme citizens and residents of the Ga State to remain calm and not be swayed by misinformation,” the statement concluded, reinforcing the legitimacy of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s rule amidst ongoing legal processes.
