As part of efforts to ensure that the governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) wins the forthcoming 2026 gubernatorial contest in Osun State,a Progressive Youths group under aegis of the Congress of Progressive Youth (COPY) paid a courtesy visit to the State Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) at the Party Secretariat where votes of confidence were passed on the State APC helmsman,Sooko (Alhaji)Tajudeen Lawal.
The group also pointed out that the visit to the APC boss was part of the strategic move to deepen the political progressive ideology, enhancement of good governance, and stimulation of grassroots mobilization for the party’s victory comes 2026 in the State.
The team led by COPY’s Director General, Mr. Ibrahim Aderinto, who applauded the APC Chairman,Sooko Lawal for taking the time out of his busy schedule to meet with leadership and members of the Progressive Youths who have been yearning for emergency of immediate past Governor of the State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola as the party candidate for the party during the forthcoming governorship election in 2026.
They acknowledged the party Chairman’s extraordinary leadership acumen, forthrightness, visionary prowess, and diplomatic skills, which have been instrumental in navigating the party dynamics and negotiating compromises that satisfy different factions and caucuses within the party in the State.
In a statement signed by the COPY’s Secretary, Comrade Lekan Ibrahim (Legacy) which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for non- interference in the party affairs and activities in the national and State levels which engender internal democracy within the party.
According to the statement; “Osun State chapter of all the All Progressive Congress(APC) under the leadership of Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, has been thriving to ensure unity of purpose within the party fold. This explains the recent surge in party membership, even attracting members from the opposition which lead to the recent defection of the PDP bigwigs in the State to the APC.We express our vote of confidence in you and your team.
“Despite experiencing tough times in the past, such as being denied the opportunity to be the youth leader during the Alliance for Democracy (AD) days and also not being appointed as Secretary but your consistency within the progressive fold still steady fast . This inspires and motivates us to support your leadership of the party in reclaiming our lost mandate in 2026”.
Similarly,the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of COPY, Honourable Ogundipe Maruf, praised the Chairman’s inclusivity and unity of purpose, supporting Mr. Wasiu Adebiyi’s commendation of the Chairman’s efforts in Ifelodun local government area, reiterating that such interventions and follow-up networking will improve the fortunes of the progressives in Ikirun and the entire IBO Federal Constituency.
In his remarks, the State Party Chairman, while thanking the group for their consistency,reminiscing on how the group honored him by inviting him to flag off their corporate social responsibility project, the grading of a road while he was a commissioner, he admitted that he had only recently realized COPY was an ideology-based group due to their consistent and prompt interventions.
“I thank you for coming at the right time. We need people within your demographic to complement the party’s work. I have profiled you and my intuition tells me that you will be among those actively participating in reclaiming Osun for the progressive fold in 2026. My agenda is clear and simple.We must get Osun back to the path of good governance and progressive ideals. I will support your proposed projects and want you to be my foot soldiers. My doors are open, and I look forward to feedback that will move the party forward.”,the Chairman requested.
Honourable Adebayo Temitope, a member of Afenifere who also serves as the BoT Secretary of the COPY, appreciated the Chairman for the warm reception and prayed for God’s wisdom and continued guidance as they navigate towards 2026 gubernatorial electoral process in the State.
