15-year-old paralyzed in an apparent trespass shooting

A 15-year-old boy has been left paralyzed after he was allegedly shot in the legs by a man who thought he was trespassing on his property.

The Senior High School (SHS) 1 student, Kwaku Akambo, narrating his ordeal to Adom News, said he was urinating on a wall outside their home when the suspect whose name he gave as Christian Adawusu shot him before striking him several times in the head.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Kato, a town in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo region.

He did not hear my plea but rather shot me in the leg and hit my head several times with blocks,” he stated.

Kwaku said he became unconscious but in his unconsciousness, felt being dragged on the floor to a refuse dump outside the house.

He was found the next day by some Good Samaritans who took him to the Berekum Government hospital.

Kwaku Akambo’s leg has been amputated as a result of the ordeal and is currently bedridden due to head injuries he sustained.

The distraught father of the victim, Peter Adongo, has, however, accused Berekum police of a cover-up.

He claimed since the incident happened about a year ago, the police have served as middle-men, collecting monies from the suspect.

Mr Adongo indicated that the police give him monies purportedly coming from the suspect but whatever monies they bring are not enough to cover the medical bills of his son.

I have spent over GH₵70 million and my child is still not well. I have to pay back these monies too,” he bemoaned.

What has made the issue murkier, Mr Adongo said, is the pressure on him to accept an out-of-court settlement.
