141 jerrycans of fuel smuggled into Togo through Aflao intercepted

 

The Ghana Police Service has intercepted one hundred and twenty-nine (129) yellow jerrycans of fuel packed in a temporary structure erected along the borderline purposely for smuggling into Togo.

The Police made this interception through intelligence by officers deployed on patrol duties led by Asst Insp. Sumaila Safo.

According to the Police, the surveillance team placed a distress call upon chancing on the information and got reinforcement and together, the team the intercepted fuel was picked and conveyed to the main border in the two (2) Service Patrol pick-up with registration numbers GI 75 and GI 202 driven by Snr. Insp. Samuel Amoako and ICO Emmanuel Ganyo respectively.

The Police said upon further intelligence, it retrieved twelve (12) additional yellow jerricans of fuel from the same location.

The Police say all efforts made by the GIS patrol team to arrest the suspects proved futile. However, the Command is still making efforts to trace and apprehend the said owner(s) of the fuel.

Currently, the intercepted one hundred and forty-one (141) yellow jerricans of fuel are in the custody of the GIS, Aflao Command pending further investigations and directives.
